5 Tips for Planning a Micro-Wedding
My dear friend and fellow wedding vendor Carissa of Carissa Woo Photography invited me to chat with her on IG Live about how to plan a Micro-Wedding. If you missed the video you can check it out on her instagram @carissawoophotography, or if you’re a reader you can scroll below to learn more about what we discussed!
What is a Micro-Wedding?
A micro-wedding is basically what the title states: a wedding that’s been downsized! The guest count for a Micro-Wedding is maximum 50 guests, which is fitting for the current times. But even thought your guest count may be small, your experience and overall vision of the wedding can stay as large as you had originally imagined! While the trend of Micro-Weddings has been around for quite some time, we have seen it gain momentum especially in 2020 due to COVID-19. If you and your significant other are considering a Micro-Wedding, read the below to review the tips Carissa and I shared!
Tip 1: Add Live-Stream Option to your Micro-Wedding
We’re seeing this trend a lot lately! It’s a great way to include your original guest count in your now micro-wedding. It’s especially wonderful for your guests who cannot fly in or travel to your wedding day, or for your family and loved ones who are immunocompromised and are not permitted to attend. Consider hiring a videographer on top of this who can put all the footage from your wedding day together for you to share with those unable to physically attend.
Tip 2: Hire Your Favorite Vendors
This one is an important one! Just because your guest count may be small, does not mean the stress of planning a wedding is small. You will still need professionals like Carissa and myself to make sure your micro-wedding goes off without a hitch. The great thing about this too is with a smaller guest count, you will have more money to spend on details. Your wedding can look like it fell out of a magazine spread! Working with the best means you’ll have the best experience and get the best results.
Tip 3: Limit The Bar
A great way to keep costs down for any size wedding is to limit the bar. When your guest count is no more than 50, this is also important! Too many options overwhelms guests, and can also overwhelm yourself. We suggest creating his and hers signature cocktails or drinks, and adding a few options on top of that for a little more variety. Like the famous saying, ‘Less is more’. That rings true in this case. You can also add more fun and personal touches to the bar such as custom signage displaying your Signature Cocktails, a fancier bar display, and more!
Tip 4: Location, Location, Location!
Now that you have a smaller guest count for your Micro-Wedding, this opens so many options for venues. Consider your favorite bar or restaurant that could not have held a larger guest count, or even dressing up your backyard! With the extra money in your budget, you can splurge on your favorite caterer. Forget the dry chicken and asparagus! Your guests will always remember the amazing food they had at your wedding.
Tip 5: Make the Details Special
This is probably my favorite tip because I am all about details and it encompasses so much of the wedding day! You can put more effort (and money) into the details of your wedding. You can get those fancy vow books to write special vows for your significant other. You can have more time for your First Look, which usually equals more beautiful pictures. You can add a custom escort card display that’s fun and interactive for your guests. You can learn a choreographed dance to surprise your guests. The sky is the limit with this!
